Wind energy-a rapidly growing renewable energy
Wind energy basics
In recent years, wind energy has become one of the most economical renewable energy technology. Today, electricity generating wind turbines employ proven and tested technology, and provide a secure and sustainable energy supply.Wind turbines convert wind energy to electricity without emissions.
Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into electricity or mechanical energy using wind turbine. The power in the wind is extracted by using a blow past moving blades that exert torque on a rotor. Depend upon the rotor size and the wind speed, the amount of power generated.
Wind turbines range from small four hundred watt generators for residential use to several megawatt machines for wind farms and offshore.
In this system, the rotor is coupled via a gearing or speed control system to a generator, which produces electricity. Wind power is used in large scale wind farms, as well as in small individual turbines for providing electricity to rural residences.
